Kira Weidner, PsyD

Clinical Psychologist & Board President

Dr. Kira Weidner (she/her/hers) is a licensed clinical psychologist, and the founder and president of The Center for Affirming Families. Dr. Weidner received her doctoral degree from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where she has also served as an Assistant Professor teaching adjunct and has provided doctoral-level clinical supervision to counseling students. She has worked in healthcare and non-profit settings leading teams providing mental health services and creatively implementing non-traditional therapy and wellness programs, including programs to detained and street-based youth and adults.

A queer person and mother, Dr. Weidner is passionate about making counseling accessible and culturally relevant, by honoring her clients’ unique values, families, communities, and sources of healing. She founded The Center for Affirming Families to offer LGBTQ+ inclusive mental health services to members of all kinds of families.

Dr. Weidner currently conducts counseling sessions via telehealth. She accepts BlueCross BlueShield PPO plans, United Healthcare PPO plans, Aetna PPO plans, and is a Lyra Health provider, and accepts self-pay and out-of-network claims.

Katie Metos

Board Treasurer

Katie W Metos (she/her or they/them) has over a decade of experience in the non-profit sector. As a professional fundraiser, Katie has supported or led teams in the arts, education, social service and healthcare fields and has experience in institutional giving, annual fund and major gift programs, events management, development operations, and capital campaigns.

As a queer person and as the gestational mother to her two non-biological sons, Katie is fascinated by the many ways that biological and chosen families form, function, and grow. She is a passionate community-builder and an advocate for equity and justice for families of all backgrounds. She looks forward to bringing her experiences to The Center for Affirming Families to advance mental healthcare support to LGBTQ+ individuals and families.

Caroline Nisbet

Board Secretary

Caroline Nisbet (she/her/hers) has worked for over 15 years in both the non-profit space as well as in business, and is currently a Vice President of Human Resources at a technology company in Chicago.

Through her own personal experiences as a bisexual and polyamorous mother, she feels passionately about expanding accessibility and availability for high-quality mental health support for families who may be living more non-traditional paths than those around them. She is so proud of the work The Center for Affirming Families is doing for the world and the community to help individuals and families live their authentic selves.
